Valencia hosts America Cup 2007

The city of Valencia demonstrated an unwavering determination in becoming the next host for the America’s Cup. 2007 will be the 32nd America’s Cup and will make history by being held in Europe for the very first time. This is a great achievement for Valencia and a boon to the classic boating event. As the America’s Cup is a most prestigious international event, Valencia and the surrounding region is undergoing a massive transformation to accommodate the festivities. What once was a dock in the port of Valencia is now Port America’s Cup, one of the most impressive marinas in the world. The city is now directly linked to the sea and although this was but a port of little interest only one year ago, it is now one of the most attractive features of the host city. The enormity of the project has also transformed the America’s Cup. The race has been extended over a four year period, from 2003 to 2007, with various preliminary races scheduled. The Louis Vuitton Acts have given several countries the opportunity to enjoy the enchantment and thrill of the America’s Cup. Nevertheless, as of 2006, preliminary events will take place exclusively in Valencia. Three races are scheduled for May and June, after which the intensity will be steadily increasing till the final stage, the Vuitton Cup and the America’s Cup Match, in the spring of 2007. In this edition, the 32nd, the competition has for the first time brought together contestants from the five continents, representing ten countries, some of which have never participated in the race, such as South Africa, China, and Germany. Owing to wind conditions in Valencia, it is expected that the races will start right on time, thus exponentially increasing the repercussions the event will have in the media. Valencia’s reliable climate is one of many benefits the city brings to the America’s Cup. In 2005 alone, over 100 million television viewers watched the competition from their homes. Because of the 32nd edition of the America’s Cup, Valencia and the community of Valencia have for the first time become familiar to people in hundreds of millions of homes around the world. During the duration of the competition, thousands of visitors are expected to make their way by land, sea, and air to Port America’s Cup
